I have had a lot of amazing experiences. I was a military dependent and attended middle school in Amman Jordan, was in Huntsville Alabama for 10th and 11th grade, then graduated from high school in Germany. I had a difficult time choosing an undergraduate degree because I loved English and Science but eventually chose to major in biology at Michigan State University. After college I attended Wayne State School of Medicine where I received my MD degree. I was thrilled to have the experience of working for two months at a missionary hospital in Bihar, India before I graduated. I completed a residency in Family Practice at East Carolina University. After my residency, I joined the Public Health Service and was assigned to the US Coast Guard where I served as a Coast Guard Physician for four years. My first assignment was Hawaii! What a wonderful adventure! My duties included a helicopter ride and a month long voyage to Micronesia. I met my husband, a career Coast Guard Officer, in Hawaii and I decided to leave the service after we had our first child. My husband's career kept us moving every two years which made maintaining a medical license difficult and, after many years of not practicing medicine, I decided to let my license expire. I rediscovered my love of teaching as I volunteered, substituted, and even taught in my children's various schools. My children are teenagers now and our family fell in love with and settled in Rhode Island. I have enjoyed returning to school for my masters in education at the University of Rhode Island. I really appreciated all of my classes and have discovered a passion for oceanography and renewed my interest in biology When I am not in school, my family keeps me busy. We enjoy reading and discussing books, hiking, kayaking and playing lots of games (most recently Canton). We are also very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Newport, where I sing in the choir.
